2011-2012 Curriculum Overview
Our focus is to prepare students for kindergarten, both cognitively and socially through emphasis on recognition and memorization of letters, sounds, numbers, weather, calendar, vocabulary (both in English and Spanish), Spanish as used in every day conversation, and manners. Advanced four/five year old students will learn to read three letter words. Children will learn through repetition, games, crafts, song, and pretend play. Recess will be provided as weather permits.
Each day will be organized as follows: gathering activity, circle time, letter time, song time, pretend play, snack time, Spanish time, exercise time, and goodbye time.
Our field trips are limited to four throughout the year (more info to come...) and parents will be in charge of transportation.
All disciplines will be introduced weekly through our letter/vocabulary units. I will post what units will be studied at the first of each month (with an outline of our lesson plan) as well as what parents can do to enhance bonding through learning with their child. Each letter will be studied during at least one week of the school year and during Friday review, in addition to continual review.
We will celebrate one holiday per month including: Independence Day (Mexico and US), Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Ano Nuevo, Valentines Day, St. Patrick's Day, National Library Month, and Cinco de Mayo. Each child will be spotlighted during one week (I will try to schedule it as close to their birthday as possible). I LOVE celebrating so this should be fun!
The three day class will have a monthly visit from a native Spanish speaker to help the children get a feel for an authentic accent. The visitor will focus on appreciating differences in culture, vocabulary and conversational sentences that have already been studied in class.
Parent volunteers are always welcome and a $5 per month discount will be offered for those who volunteer at least once a month.
We will follow the traditional school schedule of Davis County School District. Classes will begin after Labor Day.
I will post more as questions arise!

Bienvenidos!
Welcome! I am so excited to be teaching preschool this year! I am still putting the final touches on our curriculum for the 2011-2012 school year, but will post as soon as it is solidified. We will cover all of the material of a regular preschool with an emphasis on learning Spanish - mainly vocabulary and every day conversation (including pronunciation of words), and preparing kids for kindergarten. Opportunities will also be available for children who are learning English as a second language!
We will not be stressing specific letter sounds in Spanish or reading in Spanish as we need to accomplish that in English first! Look for the curriculum by the end of the week! In the meantime, if you have any questions, please call Suzi at 801-695-6515.
Classes will be offered as follows:
Monday, Wednesday , Friday
9am to 11:30am
$75, plus a $50 one time registration fee
Tuesday, Thursday
12pm - 2:30pm
$55, plus a $50 one time registration fee
*$5 per month discount available if you volunteer once during that month.
If you would be interested in additional class times/schedules please e-mail me at sproutingspanishspeakers@gmail.com. If there is enough interest, additional classes will be created.
